Thomas de Kluyver

About the Artist

Australian-born and London-based, Thomas de Kluyver is a self-taught make-up artist who honed his craft by experimenting with makeup on himself and his friends as a teenager during the early 00s’ rave scene. His unique approach balances strong makeup and subtle references with method and technique. A mix of classic beauty meets youth subculture.

In May 2019, De Kluyver was appointed Global Makeup Artist for Gucci, coinciding with the re-launch of the brand’s colour cosmetics line. In this role, he collaborates directly with Gucci’s Chief Creative Officer Alessandro Michele to develop the Gucci Beauty product range and bring his otherworldly visions to life.

De Kluyver is also contributing beauty editor for Dazed and is credited with creating runway and campaign looks for Simone Rocha, Acne, Self Portrait, Kenzo, and Jil Sander among others, as well as collaborating with photographers including Zoe Ghertner, Collier Schorr, Alasdair McLellan, Harley Weir, Glen Luchford and Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott.

Earlier this year, de Kluyver released his first book ‘All I want to Be’ during Photo London. Published by IDEA, the book is an exploration of inclusivity and identity, further highlighting his discerning point of view on beauty today.
