Scottish-born, London-based photographer Mark Kean’s passion for photography began whilst studying Art and Film on the South Coast of England, where he would capture his contemporaries in real scenarios as well as constructed ones. This study of a person and the creation and exploration of the refined perspective of who they are still informs his work. Questioning the idea of the ideal self, playing with this from different approaches, and the way the sitter and photographer interacts are key factors in his work and create a personal identity throughout his photographs. His portrait and fashion work inform each other and create a modern approach to timeless imagery.
He frequently works with stylists such as Suzanne Koller, Brian Molloy, Jane How, Robbie Spencer, Jodie Barnes, and Joe McKenna. His commercial clients include Saint Laurent, Tom Ford, The Row, Prada, Givenchy, Calvin Klein, Massimo Dutti and ZARA, among others.
